Your FAQs Explained

  • What is the difference between insulation and sound deadening?
Insulation helps regulate temperature inside your vehicle, keeping it warmer in winter and cooler in summer. Sound deadening reduces road noise, vibrations, and rattles, making your drive quieter and more comfortable.

  • Can I install insulation and sound deadening myself?
Yes! Our products are designed for easy self-installation. We provide guides and tips to help you get the best results.

  • Will insulation affect my vehicle’s electronics or interior?
No. Our products are safe for all standard vehicle interiors and electronics when installed correctly.

  • How much material will I need for my vehicle?
The amount depends on the size and type of vehicle. We provide guidance in the product descriptions to help you choose the right quantity.

  • Can insulation or sound deadening be removed later?
Yes. Most products can be carefully removed without damaging your vehicle’s interior.

  • How long does the product last?
With proper installation, our insulation and PeaceMAT XR sound deadening materials are durable and long-lasting, often lasting the lifetime of your vehicle.

  • Do these products make my car heavier?
Some increase in weight is normal but is minimal and won’t affect performance or fuel efficiency noticeably.

  • Are these products suitable for all vehicles?
Yes. Our insulation and sound deadening products can be fitted to cars, vans, trucks, and other vehicles. All our insulation are quality assured, high temperature and water resistant.

  • How do I clean or maintain the insulation?
Once installed, these products are low-maintenance. Avoid moisture buildup, and wipe down surfaces if necessary.

  • Can I combine insulation and sound deadening for better results?
Absolutely! Using both together improves temperature control and noise reduction for the best comfort and performance.

  • Which sound deadening material should I pair with thermal insulation?
For optimal results, it's recommended to use PeaceMAT XR sound deadening mats in combination with GlassMAT or SOShield Foil-Faced Closed Cell Foam insulation. The PeaceMAT XR effectively reduces vibrations and noise, while the foil-faced foam provides excellent thermal insulation. This combination enhances both comfort and energy efficiency in your vehicle.

  • What is the difference between 8mm and 10mm insulation thickness?
The primary difference lies in the thermal and acoustic performance. An 8mm thickness offers adequate insulation for moderate climates, while a 10mm thickness provides enhanced performance, especially in extreme temperatures. Thicker insulation can also contribute to better noise reduction.

  • What is the difference between foil-faced and non-foil faced insulation?
Foil-faced insulation like GlassMAT and SOShield includes a reflective layer that enhances its ability to block radiant heat, making it ideal for areas exposed to direct sunlight. Non-foil faced insulation like Closed Cell Foam lacks this reflective layer but can still provide effective thermal and acoustic insulation. The choice depends on your specific needs and the areas of your vehicle you're insulating.

  • Where should I place insulation in my vehicle?
For best results, insulation should be applied to floors, walls, roof, doors, and wheel arches. These areas are the main sources of heat loss and noise. For maximum efficiency, combine GlassMAT or SOShield thermal insulation with PeaceMAT XR sound deadening mats on metal surfaces to reduce vibrations and road noise.

  • How do I install insulation properly?
Start by cleaning and drying the surface. Cut the insulation to fit the area, peel off any backing if it’s adhesive, and press it firmly into place. For complex curves, use a roller or hand pressure to ensure full contact. If using sound deadening mats, install them directly on bare metal first, then place the insulation on top.

  • Should insulation go behind panels or under carpets?
For floors and doors, insulation under carpets or behind panels works well. For roofs and walls, insulation is best under the headliner or paneling to retain heat and reduce noise without interfering with interior fitment.

  • Can I install insulation in the engine bay or near exhausts?
Only use high-temperature-rated insulation in areas exposed to heat. Car Insulation UK offers products specially designed for these areas, called GlassMAT HTX and SOShield, please note the insulation should not be placed near exhausts, catalytic converters, or engine components to avoid melting or fire risk.

  • How do I measure how much insulation I need?
Measure the length and width of each area you plan to cover. Add a small margin for cutting errors, and check product coverage guidance. Many kits are sold in square meters or pre-cut sheets for convenience.

  • Can insulation help with condensation and dampness?
Yes! Closed-cell foam and foil-faced insulation like GlassMAT and SOShield reduce condensation by providing a thermal barrier, which helps keep moisture off the vehicle’s metal surfaces. Proper installation is key to prevent trapped moisture.

Recommendation:

For most campervan builds, a two-layer approach (sound deadening + foam insulation) provides a great balance between performance and cost. If you’re aiming for maximum efficiency or plan to camp in extreme weather, go for a three-layer system.

If you'd like specific product suggestions, let me know your campervan model and intended use!
